Whanganui Athletic

Whanganui Athletic FC are an association football team based in the New Zealand North Island city of Whanganui. They are traditionally the strongest team from the city, and played in the top flight of New Zealand football in both league and cup competitions. The team was founded in 1929 as Wanganui East Athletic, but briefly changed their name to Wanganui FC between 1974 and 1976 before reverting to their original name before dropping the East to just become Wanganui Athletic, changing to Whanganui Athletic when their home city was officially re-named.

Whanganui Athletic er et newzealandsk fotballag med base i Whanganui. Klubben spiller i Central Federation League, den tredje øverste divisjonen i New Zealand-fotballen.

Whanganui Athletic ble grunnlagt i 1909 og er dermed en av de eldste fotballklubbene i New Zealand. Klubben har vunnet Chatham Cup, New Zealands nasjonale cupkonkurranse, to ganger, i 1922 og 1992.

Whanganui Athletics hjemmebane er Cooks Gardens, som også brukes av byens rugbylag. Klubbens draktfarger er blå og hvite striper.

Noen av de mest kjente spillerne som har spilt for Whanganui Athletic inkluderer Arthur Batchelor, et medlem av New Zealands OL-lag i 1936, og Wynton Rufer, som spilte for New Zealand i FIFA World Cup i 1982.
