Los Chankas CYC (known as Cultural Santa Rosa until 2021) is a professional Peruvian football club, located in the city of Andahuaylas, Apurímac, Peru. The club currently participates in the Peruvian Primera División (Liga 1).
History
Copa Peru
Los Chankas was founded in 1989 under the name Club Deportivo Cultural Santa Rosa, after the Peruvian saint Santa Rosa de Lima. The club participated in the Copa Perú until they classified for the 2016 Liga 2 where they remained until 2023.
In the 2010 Copa Perú, the club classified to Regional Stage but was eliminated by Alianza Unicachi.
In the 2011 Copa Perú, the club classified to Regional Stage but was eliminated by Franciscano San Román and José María Arguedas.
In the 2013 Copa Perú, the club classified to Regional Stage but was eliminated by Franciscano San Román and Fuerza Minera.
In the 2015 Copa Perú, the club classified to National Stage but was eliminated by Sport Ancash in the Round of 16.
Segunda División
On August 19, 2021, Cultural Santa Rosa changed its name to Los Chankas - CYC. The letters CYC are the initials of late club president Clodoaldo Yñigo Condori who died as a result of complications from COVID-19 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic in Peru.
On October 27, 2023, Los Chankas gained promotion to Liga 1 for the first time in their history after beating Alianza Universidad on penalties. Los Chankas became the first team from the Apurímac region to play in the Peruvian First Division.
Santa Rosa har aldri vunnet det peruanske mesterskapet, men har vunnet Copa Perú, den peruanske cupen for lag fra de lavere divisjonene, tre ganger: i 1996, 2002 og 2013. Seirene i Copa Perú har gitt klubben plass i det peruanske mesterskapet, Primera División Peruana, men de har aldri klart å etablere seg på øverste nivå.
Santa Rosa er kjent for sin offensive spillestil og har produsert flere talentfulle spillere opp gjennom årene, blant annet Claudio Pizarro, som spilte for Bayern München og Chelsea. Klubben har også en sterk ungdomsavdeling som har fostre et antall spillere som har gått videre til større klubber både i Peru og i utlandet.
Santa Rosas nåværende trener er Carlos Cortijo, som har ledet klubben siden 2020. Klubbens kaptein er forsvarsspilleren Juan Diego Gutiérrez. Santa Rosa spiller i den peruanske Segunda División, den nest øverste divisjonen i Peru.
